Purpose:
Provide speech-language pathology services to students as directed by a supervising Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) licensed Speech‑Language Pathologist who holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC‑SLP) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). Provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in communicative science and disorders from an accredited college or university. Texas license as Speech‑Language Pathology Assistant or ability to obtain after completion of a Deficiency Plan under supervision of a CCC‑SLP with the district.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of habilitation and rehabilitation of speech‑language disorders and conditions;
Ability to instruct and manage student behavior;
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience: 25 hours of clinical observation & 25 hours of clinical assisting experience as required by licensure preferred, not required.
Essential Job Functions- Conduct speech, language, and hearing screening as directed by the supervising licensed speech‑language pathologist.
- Implement the treatment program or the individual education plan (IEP) in individual or group settings as designed by the supervising licensed speech‑language pathologist.
- Provide carry‑over activities to transfer a student’s newly acquired communication ability to other contexts and situations.
- Participate in and assist supervising SLP in the provision of professional development and/or community outreach.
- Write lesson plans based on the therapy program/IEP developed by the SLP supervisor.
- Work with classroom teachers to implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students.
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.
- Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including maintaining clinical records in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and school board policy.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
- Demonstrate proficient levels of technology applications.
- Participate fully in drills and safety exercises to provide for the safety and overall emotional well‑being of students.
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
- Meet task completion deadlines established by the supervisor.
- Maintain friendly customer‑service‑driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co‑workers.
- Work cooperatively with co‑workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
- Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e., email, written, and verbal).
- Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.
