Patient Services Specialist - Physical Therapy
The Patient Services Specialist, under direct supervision, provides administrative support in a physician office or clinic to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered care. Duties include patient relations, check‑in and check‑out, scheduling, insurance verification, answering calls, and collecting payments.
Key Responsibilities- Assist patient registration by collecting and verifying insurance information and entering changes into the computer system.
- Direct patients to the appropriate waiting areas.
- Accept and record payments for physician/clinic services according to established guidelines.
- Post payments and enter charges into the computer system; generate daily payment reports and verify the cash drawer.
- Provide accurate patient, medical, financial, or procedural information to patients or approved outside entities.
- Discuss financial arrangements with patients when required.
- Receive and direct phone calls; assist patients and other visitors.
- Respond to routine inquiries concerning practice services, hours of operation, etc.
- Handle patient complaints appropriately.
- Assist with medical records duties as requested.
- Arrange follow‑up visits and referral appointments.
- Good listening, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Professional, pleasant, and respectful telephone etiquette.
- Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
- Empathetic and tactful listener, upbeat, optimistic, articulate, and gracious.
- Proficiency with electronic and paper resource materials and accurate data entry.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, constantly changing, and stressful environment.
- Ability to calmly address upset patients in a composed and professional manner.
