Position Highlights
- Inpatient Neonatology Position at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center
- College Station - 7 On / 7 Off Schedule providing excellent work-life balance
- Approximately 62 hours per pay period
- On-site coverage from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM with phone call coverage only from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday-Friday
- Weekend coverage limited to 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM while on service
- No overnight call requirements
- Manage approximately 16 patients per day
- Responsibilities include:
- Neonatal patient management
- Hospital admissions
- Newborn rounding
- Circumcisions
- Coordination of care with multidisciplinary teams
- Collaborative care model with:
- Neonatologists
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs)
- Registered Nurses
- Social Workers
- Dedicated unit support staff
- Structured onboarding with support from experienced APPs already practicing within the department
- Opportunities to:
- Teach nursing staff, students, and families
- Participate in precepting and educational activities
- Expand neonatal and inpatient medicine expertise
- Preferred candidates will have 1+ year of APP experience

The NP Inpatient Medicine is a licensed, certified healthcare provider. They render direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. Inpatient Medicine providers usually work in hospitals. They manage patients by rounding and handling admissions and discharges.
EssentialFunctions of the Role
- Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
- Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
- Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
- Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to care and its effectiveness.
