Position Highlights

- On‑site coverage from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM with phone coverage only from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday‑Friday
- Weekend coverage limited to 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM while on service
- No overnight call requirements
- Manage approximately 16 patients per day
The NP Inpatient Medicine is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who renders direct patient care and has prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. Providers usually work in hospitals, managing patients by rounding and handling admissions and discharges.
Schedule- 7 On / 7 Off schedule (on‑site 8:00 AM–2:00 PM, phone 2:00 PM–6:00 PM Monday–Friday, weekend 8:00 AM–2:00 PM on service)
- No overnight call requirements
- Approx. 62 hours per pay period
- Evaluate patients' physical and mental condition through comprehensive or problem‑focused physical examinations and medical histories.
- Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and healthcare needs.
- Prescribe or recommend medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments, perform procedures per approved protocols, and recommend interventions related to health risks.
- Formulate and implement comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence‑based medicine, and standards of care; collaborate with physicians and team members when appropriate.
- Provide patient and family counseling about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
- Maintain appropriate records, including treatment plans and outcomes; initiate timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice.
- Provide consultation‑level services for conditions/problems related to the provider's specialty and training.
- Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice, as delegated by a supervising physician.
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and conduct hospital rounds; provide on‑call support.
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams (neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, unit support staff).
- Teach nursing staff, students, and families; participate in precepting and educational activities.
- Expand neonatal and inpatient medicine expertise.
- Manage approximately 16 patients per day.
- Texas RN licensure with compact privilege from a state in the Nurse Licensure Compact for RNs and LVNs, and Texas APRN.
- Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Texas.
- Certification from an accredited board as an APRN for the patient population of focus required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Graduate of an accredited program.
- 1+ year of APP experience preferred (less than 1 year acceptable for entry‑level positions).
- Preferred backgrounds include Neonatology, Pediatrics, Pediatric Acute Care, Women’s Health, Hospital Medicine, and Critical Care.
- Knowledge of diagnosing and treating human injuries, diseases, and deformities; knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating physical and mental dysfunctions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, complex problem‑solving skills, and computer proficiency.
