Position Highlights
- Level III NICU providing advanced neonatal critical care in an inpatient setting.
- 24‑hour shift schedule offering a condensed work schedule and excellent work‑life balance.
- Work alongside experienced Neonatologists and Neonatal NPs in a collaborative, team‑based environment.
- Manage approximately 16 patients per shift with support from RNs, Social Workers, and additional APPs.
- Broad scope of practice includes high‑risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitation; hospital admissions and inpatient rounding; critical care procedures (intubations, lumbar punctures, arterial/umbilical line placement, chest tubes, bladder taps); ventilator management; cooling therapies (body/head cooling); iNO therapy; ECMO participation under neonatologist supervision.
- New graduates are encouraged to apply with a structured 12‑18 month mentorship and onboarding program led by Dr. Amy Brunt and the neonatal team.
- Individual patient management with your own in‑basket responsibilities.
- No travel or satellite clinic responsibilities—practice exclusively at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – College Station.
- Strong interdisciplinary support including dedicated nursing and social work teams.

- PALS certification required.
The NP Intensivist Medicine is a licensed, certified, non‑physician health‑care provider who delivers direct patient care with prescriptive authority. Credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid, the advanced practice provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician’s scope of practice in critical‑care settings, managing patients through rounds, procedures, admissions, and discharges.
Essential Functions- Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem‑focused physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
- Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and diagnostic tests to determine patient needs.
- Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies, performs procedures with safety and cost‑efficacy in mind, and recommends interventions to reduce health risks.
- Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on evidence‑based medicine and standards of care, collaborating with physicians and team members, and evaluates the effectiveness of care.
- Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion and addresses potential drug interactions.
- Maintains records of treatment plans and outcomes, and initiates timely consultations or referrals when the problem exceeds scope of practice.
- Provides consultation‑level services for conditions related to the provider’s specialty and training.
- Performs invasive procedures specific to the scope of practice as delegated by the supervising physician.
- May conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on‑call support.
- In-depth knowledge of injuries, diseases, drug properties, interactions, and preventive health‑care measures.
- Knowledge of diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative practices for physical and mental dysfunctions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and critical‑thinking skills, including complex problem solving.
- Proficiency in computers and related software applications.
- Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes‑based treatment plans.
- Capability to counsel patients on medical and psychological conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification strategies.
- Skill in interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privilege, and Texas APRN Certification.
- Current Texas license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Board certification as an APRN for the patient population of focus.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited program.
- Experience: Less than 1 year of experience.
- Certification/License/Registration:
- Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Board certification: ACNP‑BC, ACNPC‑AG, or NNP‑BC.
