* * Job Description**## The Research Technician I, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks. Responsibilities:
-Collects samples and measurement data from experiments. Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.
-Collects and compiles data. Computes quantitates and extends projections.
-Assembles and operates technical equipment.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Assists senior staff members in conducting major field experiments and consults in developing procedures.## ## Field Work:## - Mark and establish demonstration/experimental plots##
-Collect pre- and post-plant soil samples## - Collect and process crop samples (biomass and yield)## - Apply chemicals including fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc.## - Collect crop canopy data using crop sensors## ## Data entry and management :##
-Able to use Microsoft word for report writing##
-Use Microsoft excel for entering field data##
-Perform basic statistical analysis such means using any software## - Maintain database of weather, soil, and crop data## - Shipping and handling of samples##
-Maintain inventory of research equipment and supplies## Lab work:##
-Process soil samples; sort, dry, grind, etc.##
-Process crop samples; dry grain or biomass samples, grind samples for lab analysis##
-Perform simple lab tests on soil samples including pH, electrical conductivity, bulk density, water content, etc.##
Education and Experience:
-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Two years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Other Requirements:
Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force. Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
