Job Description Here’s a Glimpse of the JobTexas A&M’s Department of Biology is seeking a Research Technician I to support ongoing research activities within a dynamic laboratory environment. Under general supervision, the technician will assist with rodent colony management, reagent preparation, laboratory maintenance, and a range of research experiments employing cutting-edge neuroscience approaches.
Opportunities to Contribute- Assists with the maintenance and monitoring of laboratory mouse colonies, including breeding, weaning, genotyping, recordkeeping, coordinating animal availability for research, and reporting animal-related concerns to supervisory staff.
- Prepares laboratory media, reagents, buffers, stock solutions, and other materials while maintaining inventories and assisting with supply ordering as needed.
- Maintains laboratory equipment, work spaces, preparation areas, records, and cleanliness in accordance with institutional safety and animal-care requirements.
- Assists with research projects and laboratory procedures by preparing animals, equipment, materials, and work spaces and supporting experimental activities, including molecular biology techniques, behavioral assays, imaging, tissue collection, cell culture, and surgical procedures as needed.
- Collects, organizes, maintains, and reports experimental data while regularly communicating research progress, protocol execution, and results to supervisors and laboratory staff.
- Participates in required laboratory, animal-care, safety, and compliance training.
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of related experience. Ability to lift and/or move lightweight objects.
- A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess: BS/BA in Biology, Neuroscience, or related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience in a biology, neuroscience, or related laboratory.
- Previous experience working with rodents.
- Expertise in any/all of the following techniques: rodent surgery, virus injection, microscopy, perfusion, cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemistry, genotyping.
- Expertise in animal husbandry and/or rodent colony management.
- Demonstrated track record of organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, independent, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and database management.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Salary:
Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Schedule:
May have to work on the weekend and/or after normal hours.
