The Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) is an institution that represents 100 years of growth from a small school of veterinary medicine in 1916 to its present role as a major veterinary educational, medical, and research center. What we want

The Technician I assists in conducting experiments and technical procedures. Performs some laboratory research activities. Makes and records observations and measurements. The technician makes and records observations and measurements, and assists the PI while providing support to graduate students and research staff in the laboratory. Responsibilities include daily maintenance, cleaning, and organization of the lab and equipment; updating inventories; processing samples;

culturing and quantifying bacteria; and performing phenotypic and genotypic characterization of bacterial isolates. The role also includes conducting literature reviews, maintaining accurate and detailed records, and ensuring timely communication and participation in laboratory meetings.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of laboratory or related experience
Responsibilities Laboratory Operations
  • Assists in conducting experiments and technical procedures. Performs some laboratory research activities.
  • Reviews literature relating to possible procedures and experiments.
  • Modifies procedures to suit the research need.
  • Assists with planning and may supervise technical operations.
  • Assists personnel involved in a series of controlled environment or analysis experiments.
  • Assists in making chemical and physical analyses which, although they follow standard procedures and tests, may require the exercise of some ingenuity and improvisation.
Data Entry
  • Uses computer equipment for controlling equipment and compiling data.
  • Makes and records observations and measurements.
Laboratory Maintenance
  • Performs daily cleaning, organization, and upkeep of laboratory spaces and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Updates and maintains laboratory inventories, including reagents, supplies, and bacterial stocks.
  • Ensures proper maintenance, calibration, and readiness of laboratory instruments and equipment.
