Manager

Texas A&M Agri Life Research

This position will be 12 months and 100% Agri Life Research, located at the Texas A&M RELLIS Innovation and Technology campus, Bryan, Texas. The purpose of this position is to provide coordination and manage general operations and scheduling of the facility and work closely with PIs of the Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Building. This individual will help coordinate multiple research projects and activities across the building as well as compliance and billing.

In addition, the individual will coordinate all activities associated with the research, teaching, and extension missions of the land grant system.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages projects including planning, designing and implementing of research.
  • Manages compliance by writing protocols for animal care and IBC. Ensures protocols are followed and studies are conducted safely and ethically.
  • Manages and maintains livestock at the building.
  • Provides training to users and ensure training is up to date.
  • Manages inventory for lab spaces, order and procure supplies and equipment.
  • Manages space and research calendar to maximize use of space.
  • Assists with billing and budgets for users.
  • Assists with writing research reports and creating presentations.
  • Assists with collecting and the analysis data.
  • Assists with drafting and editing of manuscripts.
  • Coordinates building and equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Administrative Relationships:

  • Reports directly to the director of the Reproduction and Biotechnology Center, College Station, TX.
  • Directs the work of support staff, and other technical personnel and graduate students assigned to the project.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, Reproductive Physiology or closely related field and five years of related experience.
  • Or Master's Degree in Animal Science, Reproductive Physiology or closely related field and three years of related experience.
  • Or Ph.D. in Animal Science, Reproductive Physiology or closely related field and one year of related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including a relevant publication record.
  • Team-building skills, collaboration capacity, and project management abilities.
  • Highly organized.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Ability to multi-task and establish effective working relationships.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research experience with in vitro embryo production and/or other reproductive biotechnologies in animals.
  • Experience with livestock handling, animal husbandry, and animal care protocols.

Location and Facilities:

This facility includes research labs, educational spaces, office space, and animal holding and handling areas supporting the university's leadership in animal reproductive science. In pursuit of continual excellence in reproductive technology research, the Center provides dedicated research lab space for emerging technologies and practices for both academic and industry partner use.

Focused on domestic animal reproduction research in small and large ruminants, the Center has a variety of exterior animal holding and handling spaces for specimen collection and hands-on instruction. These areas are segregated by size and type of ruminants, small ruminants such as goats and sheep, large ruminants such as cattle, deer, and transgenic animals. Designated work areas for each group will include cattle and deer chutes for specimen collection, stanchion space for hands-on instruction in cattle palpation and other skills, and prep and recovery spaces for small ruminants before and after surgery.

These work spaces are supported by load-out areas, holding pens, and alleyway circulation.

The Center will support hands-on learning augmented by virtual demonstration methods. Training spaces—a multipurpose rooms and seminar rooms, should be integrated with the primary research areas and animal handling spaces to expose students to new techniques and technologies.
