Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
Job DescriptionThe Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute is seeking a highly skilled Master Utilities Maintenance Technician to support the ongoing reliability and performance of facility equipment and systems. This role is responsible for performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on a wide range of machinery and infrastructure. The selected candidate will play a key leadership role in ensuring maintenance activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in a manner that restores or enhances equipment reliability.
The ideal candidate will possess a broad base of hands on maintenance experience across multiple disciplines, including plumbing, HVAC, automotive systems, electric, and related trades, demonstrating the versatility needed to support the Institute’s complex mechanical environment.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on various equipment such as Cooling tower fans, tower pumps, all heat exchangers and LCW water pumps.
- Repair all water leaks in the Cyclotron and related equipment.
- Maintain cooling tower chemical balance.
- Maintain low conductivity water system chemical balance.
- Perform maintenance on building air compressors and hydraulic systems.
- Install and repair copper pipes up to 4 inches long with valve as needed.
- Make recommendations to avoid equipment failures.
- Provide directions to AT’s as needed.
- Assist in preparation of cost estimates on new project installations.
- High School or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Seven years of related experience in the maintenance of equipment such as industrial power boilers, steam and/or gas turbine driven generators, or industrial or commercial chilling equipment.
- Forklift certification within 6 months of employment or when training next available through EH&S.
- Failure to successfully complete any of the TAMU training & development program for Master Utilities Maintenance Technicians may result in termination.
- Knowledge of mechanical diagnostic tools, which may include laser alignment and vibration data processors.
- Knowledge of root cause analyses methods.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
- Occasionally hand-carry light duty equipment.
- Must be able to ascend stairs, stand for extended periods of time, and be able to lift and/or move heavy weight objects.
- Welding Certification.
- ISA Certification Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic.
