  • Provide preventive, educational, diagnostic, and routine dental treatment services within approved DHAT scope of practice and clinical privileges
  • Obtain and document patient medical and dental histories and perform dental assessments
  • Perform dental examinations, radiographs, diagnosis, and treatment planning within authorized scope
  • Provide oral health education, fluoride treatments, sealants, prophylaxis, and other preventive interventions
  • Perform authorized restorative procedures and, when permitted, administer local anesthetic and perform uncomplicated extractions
  • Provide emergency and palliative dental services and consult the supervising dentist when needed
  • Identify cases requiring services outside DHAT scope and coordinate consultation or referral
  • Deliver culturally responsive oral health education to patients, families, schools, elders, and the community
  • Participate in community outreach, school-based services, prevention activities, health fairs, and community health initiatives
  • Coordinate referrals, specialty dental services, follow-up care, and continuity of care
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely electronic health records
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection prevention, OSHA, patient safety, and YCHC policies
  • Participate in quality improvement, chart review, peer review, patient safety, and Dental Department quality activities
  • Maintain dental equipment, instruments, supplies, and inventory
  • Follow sterilization, infection‑control, exposure‑control, and clinical safety procedures
  • Assist with scheduling, patient follow‑up, referrals, clerical duties, and administrative responsibilities
  • Collaborate with medical, behavioral health, community health, specialty care, and administrative staff
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, emergency preparedness activities, and organizational initiatives
  • Perform remote follow‑up, scheduling, referral coordination, chart review, documentation, treatment‑planning consultation, patient education, outreach coordination, quality improvement, program development, and continuing education
  • Remain available during scheduled remote hours and report on‑site when patient‑care or operational needs require it
  • Serve as a Mandatory Reporter
Requirements
  • Successful completion of an approved Dental Health Aide Therapist educational program
  • Current Dental Health Aide Therapist certification through the Community Health Aide Program Certification Board, or ability to obtain required certification prior to independent practice
  • Possession or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska with a clean driving record
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history and background check
  • Must present vaccination documentation or submit to immunity testing for Tdap, hepatitis B, measles, varicella, and influenza within 3 months of hire
  • Knowledge of DHAT clinical standards, scope of practice, and supervision requirements
  • Knowledge of preventive, restorative, and community‑based dental care
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, infection prevention, sterilization, and patient safety
  • Ability to perform authorized dental procedures safely and competently
  • Ability to recognize conditions requiring consultation, referral, or treatment by a dentist or other healthcare professional
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, coworkers, and community partners
  • Ability to provide culturally responsive and respectful care
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining appropriate communication with the supervising dentist
  • Ability to organize and prioritize patient‑care and administrative responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
