Role Overview

Reporting to the Principal Engineer, Tailings & Environment, the Engineer, Tailings & Environment (Engineer) is a progressive position. The Engineer is responsible for supporting closure and reclamation planning and reporting, and closure execution readiness at Red Dog Mine. The role will work with the Senior Closure Lead, Biodiversity Lead, and other internal and external professionals responsible for the planning and delivery of closure, biodiversity and reclamation initiatives across all aspects of Red Dog’s operations;

including updating plans and designs; compliance monitoring and reporting, closure and reclamation cost evaluation and reporting; designing and executing biodiversity projects; and participating in Teck’s external engagement activities with various regulatory agencies, partners, and local communities.

Rotational Schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site

Key Responsibilities
  • Support closure planning and implementation on-site in alignment with Tecks Closure Standard, and provide reporting on closure-related tasks.
  • Support identification and migration of closure, reclamation, and biodiversity risks, issues or challenges, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions to address the risk, issues or challenges.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advises coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required.
  • Ensure short- and long-term projects related to closure meet the operation’s needs. Ensure that reclamation projects are completed according to approved plans, specifications and development codes/permits.
  • Understand Tecks Biodiversity commitments including Nature Positive and reclamation needs
  • Prepare various professional reports, applications and submissions for internal and government audiences.
  • Support development and maintaining of the integrated Closure Execution Readiness Plan, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy, regulatory requirements, and site operational plans. Coordinate with engineering, operations, environmental, finance, and project teams to ensure readiness milestones are clearly defined and met.
  • Support updating the 10

    Yr Cap Ex, R&D, and Reclamation plans needed for Life of Asset (LoA) for closure and MLE scenarios. Support development of closure and MLE budgets, ensuring cost accuracy, transparency, and alignment with execution plans. Monitor financial performance against readiness milestones and adjust plans as needed.
  • Work with the Projects Team to prepare to execute progressive closure and reclamation projects. This includes ensuring reclamation projects have detailed cost estimates for the 10-yr LoA / Business Plan and annual budgets; detailed designs, and IFC drawings and specifications are prepared; and resources have been identified and procured in advance of execution.
  • Communicate effectively with project, operating, analytical and maintenance groups to ensure optimum utilization of resources and onsite staff.
  • Provide ongoing engineering technical support to operating, technical, and maintenance groups for optimization of reclamation and closure management processes. Provide technical expertise to operations and develop engineering solutions to problems.
