Responsible for the timely integration of geologic and blasthole data into grade control ore releases guiding open-pit operations. Responsible for field mapping dig faces, highwall exposures, and blast hole patterns. Responsible for timely and accurate reconciliation of grade control ore releases with plan schedules.

Essential Functions
  • Perform and administer blast hole sampling protocol and monitor blast hole assays and analyses. Revise sampling procedures as needed to ensure that representative samples are collected. Develop a QA/QC program for blast hole assaying. Prepare geologic maps of blast hole cuttings and analytical results.
  • Perform grade control responsibilities working with Engineering staff on short- and long-range mine planning. This will include generating ore release products accounting for blast movement, material strategies. Work with Dispatch and Survey to delineate boundaries.
  • Work with loading unit operators and supervisors at the dig face to guide mining and minimize mining dilution and ore loss.
  • Prepare geologic and alteration maps of dig faces and highwall exposures.
  • Map structural features and rock quality characteristics and analyze data to determine highwall stability.
  • Consult with Metallurgical Department staff on geological / mineralogical characteristics of ore that may impact mill recoveries.
  • Work closely with Senior Geologist to refine and update reserve and resource models based on geological and geochemical data from mapping and grade control sampling.
  • Maintain accurate records and files and prepare grade control presentations.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them. Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required associated with the safe and efficient operation of open-pit mines.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Mining Engineering is required.
  • Two years as a Mine / Production Geologist in open-pit mining preferred.
  • Exposure to grade control practices for gold mining is preferred.
  • Must have a sound background in sampling theory for assay techniques.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state. Must be capable of unsupervised light-duty driving in a dynamic open-pit mining environment.
  • Must have a strong commitment to safe working practices.
  • Sound working knowledge and skill with a PC utilizing word processing and Excel spreadsheet programs.
  • Proficiency with Mine Sight, Leapfrog, Ore Pro 3D, and/or Vulcan softwares is preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.
