Seasonal Motor Vehicle Operator

Summary

The typical seasonal EOD period for this position is November through April, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty:
Early to mid-November 2026.

• Operates and performs operator maintenance on various types of motor vehicles up to 10,000 pounds.
• Loads and unloads cargo, using appropriate tie-downs.
• Performs flagging duties for heavy equipment operators.
• Corrects and reports park hazards.
• Transports passengers and cargo on public roadways in various traffic, road, and weather conditions.
• Occasionally leads a crew in the performance of these duties (WG 05 only).

Moderate physical effort may be required in making couplings between the vehicle and towed equipment. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs. Required to frequently lift items weighing over 50 pounds. Work may involve climbing of ladders, scaffolding, and working in and around power tools and equipment.

The incumbent is required to work outside and is exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle.

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Background investigation and favorable adjudication required.
• Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
• Must participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
• Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses are not paid; relocation expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
• Valid driver’s license required and a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record must be submitted.
• All certified driving records from all states must be submitted.
• Position has an intermittent work schedule; will be subject to call and will have no pre‑scheduled work schedule.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old plus one of the following: high school graduation or certificate, completion of a formal vocational training program, statement from school authorities agreeing with preference for employment, or currently enrolled in secondary school with part‑time employment under a formal student employment program.
