Southern Adventist University seeks an English professor to teach a range of writing courses including first-year and creative writing and may include professional or technical writing; courses may also include literature, language, rhetoric, theory, or other related areas. Specialization and professional experience in Creative Writing desired.

- PhD in English or MFA in Creative Writing preferred;
Master’s degree in the discipline (e.g., English, Composition and Rhetoric, Professional Writing, Technical Writing) required - Significant experience teaching literature or writing (secondary and/or college level) or significant professional experience as a writer, editor, or related field
- Experience teaching first-year writing
Must have a strongly expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and an SDA church member in good and regular standing.
Essential Functions- Prepare and teach four courses (total of 12 credit hours) per semester plus one summer course (3 credit hours)
- Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (i.e., grades, syllabi, attendance records)
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours (minimum of 8 hours weekly)
- Participate in up to 2-3 committees on campus as requested
- Advise English majors, assisting students in making plans for timely degree completion
- Participate in student/club/program/Southern activities on the weekend as scheduled throughout the year
- Participate in all English Department activities, such as department meetings, social gatherings, and celebrations
- Maintain competency in the field through professional development
- Maintain standards of conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position
- Take on additional duties as needed
