The accountant position plays a critical role in the financial operations of Liturgical Press, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of royalty payments to authors, licensors, and rights holders. This role involves meticulous contract analysis, data management, process improvement initiatives, and close collaboration with the Director of Finance and cross-functional teams to uphold the financial health and mission of the Press.

The posted wage represents OSB's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.
Responsibilities- Royalty Contract Review
:
Review complex author and licensor contracts to determine accurate royalty rates, terms, and reporting requirements for all royalty relevant products. - Royalty Calculation & Processing
:
Collect and analyze sales data from various distribution channels, accurately calculating royalties owed and preparing related journal entries for the general ledger. - Royalty Reconciliation
:
Conduct thorough reconciliations of advance royalties, accrued royalties, and subventions against earned royalties to ensure accuracy. - Royalty Statement & Reporting
:
Prepare and distribute timely and transparent royalty statements to authors and rights holders. Serve as the primary contact for all royalty inquiries, resolving discrepancies with professionalism and clarity. - Compliance
:
Ensure all royalty calculations and payments comply with contractual obligations, GAAP, and internal controls. - Process Efficiency
:
Work collaboratively with the business office and other departments to identify, recommend, and implement process improvements and system enhancements (e.g., automation tools) to increase efficiency and accuracy in payment cycles. - Accounts Payable Review
:
Review accounts payable coding for accuracy and compliance with internal controls, escalating issues to the Director of Finance as needed. - Financial Reporting Assistance
:
Assist the Director of Finance with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including preparing reconciliations, supporting schedules for audits, and various financial analyses or reports as needed.
Education: A two-year accounting degree or equivalent post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance is required.
Desired
Qualifications:
A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a publishing or intellectual property-driven environment. Experience related to royalty accounting or contract analysis is highly valued.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and experience with ERP systems and/or specialized royalty accounting software.
- Process Improvement Mindset: A strong focus on efficiency, proactively identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce duplicate data entry, and collaborate closely with the business office to implement enhancements.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both internal staff and external stakeholders.
Sitting for prolonged periods of time. Extensive use of computers and keyboard. Occasional walking and lifting may be required.
