Primary PurposeProvide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Journalism/Yearbook, helping them achieve intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and develop competencies to function successfully in society.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level
- Demonstrated competency in Journalism/Yearbook
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction in core academic areas
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
- Prepare lessons accommodating differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter following Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment tailored to student needs.
- Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instruction.
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs.
- Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
- Use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities and sponsor outside activities approved by the principal.
- Be a positive role model and support district mission.
- Create a conducive learning environment appropriate for student development.
- Manage student behavior according to Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Maintain open communication via conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information clearly.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
- Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
