SIGN-ON INCENTIVE PROGRAM: $2,000 sign‑on incentive upon hire
Under general supervision, the purpose of the job is to perform routine maintenance and operational activities associated with the City’s water and wastewater systems.
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
- Performs manual and semi‑skilled labor tasks related to the water distribution system such as repair water main breaks and leaks, replace or install water meters, repair or replace fire hydrants, flush fire hydrants, operate valves, make water taps and install water service lines, replace broken or missing meter lids and boxes, performs re‑reads and meter reading, cuts out streets and driveways;
manually excavates, backfills and compacts excavated areas to facilitate repairs. - Cleans sewer lines and responds to sewer issues within the collection system.
- Locates utilities on the job; digs out utilities by hand for machine.
- Performs simple measurements; interprets gauge and meter readings; performs routine safety inspections.
- Transports materials, tools and equipment to and from job sites; setups and removes warning signs and traffic control devices.
- Operates and services equipment such as jetter truck, hydro‑excavation machinery;
Operates light vehicles, machinery, and power tools. - Assists with cleaning and upkeep of vehicles and maintains checklist; cleans work area.
- Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
- Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
- This position requires on‑call duties.
- Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.
- Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Driver's License.
- Must possess a Class B CDL with required endorsements or possess CDL permit or obtain license and endorsements within six (6) months of hire.
