School Crossing Guard

Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to guide or control vehicular or pedestrian traffic at school intersections to facilitate safe pedestrian crossing.

• Ensures pedestrian safety at dedicated and marked crosswalks at intersections while utilizing proper safety procedures.
• Assists children in safely crossing the street, including using available electronic safety equipment, handheld stop sign(s), safety vest, and whistle.
• Reports malfunctioning safety equipment (i.e. school zone flashing lights, signal lights, etc.) or any other obstruction that may interfere with the safety of children crossing the roadway.
• Promotes safety by maintaining awareness of traffic situations and acting accordingly to protect the children.
• Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
• Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

Entry level education for this classification and does not require completion of high school.

Must be 18 years of age or older.
