What's The Job?

Working as the Chief Codes Compliance Officer
, you can expect to lead and supervise staff responsible for ensuring consistent and uniform enforcement of the Town's Municipal Code of Ordinances and Zoning Ordinance. You'll assign work, establish safety and performance expectations, hire and evaluate employees, address personnel matters, and develop training programs to support staff development and department objectives. This position provides guidance on complex code interpretation, responds to sensitive public inquiries and complaints, and ensures the public receives accurate information regarding code requirements and related procedures.

You'll receive, document, and assign investigations involving code complaints and violations, recommend corrective actions, and follow up to ensure proper implementation and compliance. The position also directs and participates in commercial property maintenance inspections, including annual inspections, and maintains comprehensive records related to code compliance activities, complaints, permits, and enforcement actions. Additional responsibilities include reviewing and studying Town codes and ordinances, researching code interpretations, developing policy recommendations, preparing reports for the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and Town Prosecutor, and representing the Town at meetings concerning code-related issues.

You'll also stay current on changes to state and local codes, ordinances, and regulations to support effective enforcement and administration of the Town's code compliance program.

Here is what you must have to be considered for the position of Chief Codes Compliance Officer
:

Requires an Associates degree with major course work in construction management/inspection specialties, planning, criminal justice or a related field;

Supplemented by four (4) years previous experience and/or training involving code and regulation or zoning investigation, at least one (1) of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
