Lab Technician

The Lab Technician will work in a production wet laboratory and take responsibility for a wide range of testing and formulation activities, including viscometer testing, thermo/balance measurements, titrations, gel testing, and catalyst evaluation. The role involves preparing and adjusting formulations and batch mixtures, which requires a solid mathematical aptitude and an understanding of solution percentages. This position supports ongoing production quality control and contributes directly to maintaining consistent product performance.

Responsibilities
  • Perform wet chemistry testing, including titrations, gel testing, and other routine laboratory analyses to support production and quality control.
  • Operate and maintain viscometers, thermo/balances, and related laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Prepare, mix, and adjust formulations and batch mixtures using basic math and percentage calculations to meet specified standards.
  • Conduct quality control tests on materials and products to verify that they meet established specifications and quality requirements.
  • Document test results accurately and maintain clear, organized laboratory records in accordance with internal procedures and quality standards.
  • Follow good manufacturing practice (GMP) and quality control (QC) protocols to ensure consistent, safe, and compliant laboratory operations.
  • Collaborate with the Lab Supervisor and other lab personnel during training and daily operations to ensure proper techniques and procedures are followed.
  • Support continuous production by working assigned shifts and adapting to schedule changes as needed to cover laboratory operations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment, including proper use of safety equipment and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Learn and apply basic mathematical formulas to manipulate solution percentages and adjust formulations under guidance, with the goal of working independently over time.
Essential Skills
  • Experience or familiarity with wet chemistry techniques, including titrations and basic laboratory testing.
  • Ability to operate laboratory instruments such as viscometers and thermo/balances, or a strong willingness and aptitude to learn.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry and quality control concepts in a laboratory or production environment.
  • Mathematical aptitude, including the ability to understand and apply basic math formulas to manipulate solution percentages.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests, recording data, and following procedures.
  • Reliability and commitment to attendance and punctuality in alignment with a structured attendance system.
  • Willingness and ability to work any assigned shift (first, second, or third) in a production lab environment.
  • Ability to follow GMP and QC procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Some college coursework in chemistry, laboratory science, or a related field is beneficial but not required.
  • Prior laboratory experience, particularly in a wet lab, is a significant advantage.
  • Experience or training from an associate or bachelor's degree program in a scientific field is preferred to enable a quick transition into the role.
  • Familiarity with quality control practices and laboratory documentation standards.
  • Interest in continuous learning and professional development, including pursuing additional certifications or education.
  • Comfort working in a production-focused laboratory where testing supports ongoing manufacturing operations.
Work Environment

This role is based in a production wet laboratory that supports resin, gel coat, and colorant manufacturing. Initial training lasts approximately 2–3 weeks on first shift, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., working one-on-one with the Lab Supervisor. Regular schedules operate on three shifts: 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. (first shift), 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. (second shift), and 11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. (third shift).
