You develop leaders who care about their teams, the guests and each other. You lead a team of experts, advocates, and consultants that are passionate about ensuring guests get what they came for (plus a little more) every time they shop at their store. You take accountability for running a profitable growth business.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES A STORE DIRECTOR CAN PROVIDE- Managing a large team of hourly team members and leaders as well as leaders of leaders
- Recruiting, selecting, talent management, and talent planning across all departments of the store
- Guest service fundamentals and experience building and leading a guest-first culture across the store
- Retail business financials (e.g., payroll, profit and loss) and driving sales growth
- Creating store-specific strategies and managing your team to deliver results
- Retail business fundamentals for the total store, including understanding sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, satisfaction, pricing and promotion strategies, and specialty businesses; teach and train your leaders on the same business acumen
- Setting and planning total store quarterly business priorities and managing a team to meet sales goals
- Building partnerships with and leveraging key partners (e.g., Asset Protection, Food & Beverage, Human Resources) to support store performance and business growth
- Making business decisions by assessing market competition, understanding guest insights and feedback
- Consistently deliver guest experience commitments
- Lead with confidence, care and purpose to drive a guest-obsessed culture that relentlessly delivers the guest experience standard for Target’s brand promise
- Hold direct reports accountable to deliver exceptional guest experience through consistent operations, accountability, team development, training and recognition
- Celebrate wins, align the team and prioritize actions that drive results and elevate the guest experience
- Actively engage with the community to represent our brand and build connections in the communities we serve
- Lead a talent culture through active participation in onboarding, development and growth of leaders
- Drive accountability through clear expectations and consistent performance management
- Partner with HR to create and deliver sustainable and equitable talent strategies that fuel career progression
- Be approachable and available for your team, fostering open communication and quick issue resolution
- Recruit, hire and retain a passionate team for area‑specific knowledge and expertise
- Oversee scheduling to ensure needs of the business and consistent guest experience, aligned with team availability and desired hours
- Own and implement leadership schedules that align to guest and business needs (including weekends, mornings, evenings, overnight and seasonal adjustments)
- Demonstrate and promote inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences
- Invest in personal and team training; follow up on training completion
- Drive a guest‑obsessed culture balancing in‑store and digital guests to deliver on store sales goals and operational goals while ensuring the team can educate and promote benefits and offerings that reward guests (including the Target App, Target Circle Card, Drive Up, Order Pick Up and Circle 360 same‑day delivery)
