What’s The Job? Working as a Crew Leader
, you will guide a team in operating equipment and performing maintenance work across a variety of departmental projects. This role provides direction, training, and hands-on assistance to employees by coordinating daily activities, organizing and prioritizing workloads, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress while troubleshooting issues as they arise. The crew leader supports workplace safety by monitoring the environment and proper use of safety equipment, coordinating safe work zones and traffic control, and reporting incidents or concerns.
Responsibilities also include assisting with project coordination by reviewing work orders, helping determine needed equipment, materials, and staffing, and inspecting completed work. In addition, the position actively participates in maintaining parks, athletic fields, and recreational facilities, including repairs, field setup and lining, irrigation work, seasonal preparations, and event setup and breakdown.
The purpose of this classification is to lead a crew of workers engaged in operating equipment and performing maintenance work associated with various projects within an assigned department/division of the Town.
QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in work in area of assignment, heavy equipment operation, and vehicle operation; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving work in area of assignment, heavy equipment operation, and vehicle operation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
LICENSESRequires valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Must obtain Commercial Driver’s License within one (1) year of hire or next available Commercial License Class available to Town employees. Athletics Crew Leader must obtain Pesticide Applicator License within one (1) year of hire.
NOTESTasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
