Essential Functions
- Identifies and assesses concerns and needs for students in regard to academic and behavioral problems through analysis of factors impeding student adjustment, including those at home, school, and community.
- Serves as a liaison between families and schools to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students.
- Uses district data to provide educational training for parents or legal guardians and school staff on identified issues or concerns from need assessment results.
- Locates and mobilizes community resources to support the educational program, identifying resources for families such as counseling, basic needs, and medical needs, and facilitating connections to these resources.
- Assists with coordination of the activities of the Collierville Schools Family Resource Center.
- Participates on district and school‑based multidisciplinary teams to develop interventions that promote students’ academic and behavioral success and positive mental health.
- Works collaboratively with school counselors and the district Counseling Supervisor to support behavioral, emotional, and environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning process.
- Regularly evaluates the effectiveness of services and identifies need for additional services.
- Maintains a referral system for all students, parents, employees, and other stakeholders.
- Attends meetings and professional development activities as required.
- Maintains required records and submits appropriate documentation and data.
- Ensures exemplary in‑person attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains a forty‑hour work week, working additional hours as required to carry out all functions and duties of the position. This is a ten‑and‑half‑month position.
- Provide support to all District Social Workers.
- Assist the Counseling and Intervention Supervisor with annual training for all district employees.
- Assist in development and implementation of district policies and procedures for social programs.
- Collaborate with the Counseling and Intervention Supervisor and the School Safety Supervisor to coordinate the establishment of guidelines, procedures, and training for school and staff safety procedures.
- Coordinate on‑the‑job training for new Social Workers.
- Relay important information to school Social Workers and administrators, providing updates on related resources.
- Collect information and data for required district and state reports.
- Determine methods for documentation.
- Establish processes to identify student needs.
- Participate in evaluation of programs through collection and review of data.
- L.M.S.W. (Licensed Master of Social Work) from a school fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and State of Tennessee Division of Health‑Related Boards, or possession of advanced licensures such as LCSW, LAPSW, LPC/MHSP, and/or school social worker licensure by the Tennessee Department of Education.
- A minimum of three years of school‑based experience preferred.
- Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports, including statistics.
- Proficiency in computer applications to include spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
- Strong group processing and presentation skills.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered appropriate and acceptable by the Superintendent.
- Data Utilization:
Ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and analyze data; exercise discretion in data classification and reference analysis to established standards. - Human Interaction:
Ability to provide guidance, effective supervision, assistance, and interpretation to others regarding application of procedures and standards. - Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization:
Ability to operate, maneuver, and control equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in essential functions. - Verbal Aptitude:
Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and advisory data and information. - Mathematical Aptitude:
Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, calculate decimals and percentages, utilize principles of fractions, and interpret graphs. - Functional Reasoning:
Ability to apply principles of rational systems and laws; interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule instructions; exercise independent judgment to adapt methods to meet objectives. - Situational Reasoning:
Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity when evaluating information against measurable criteria and planning program goals.
- Physical Ability:
Tasks require light physical effort, with occasional lifting or carrying of objects up to 50 pounds and extended keyboard or workstation periods. - Sensory Requirements:
Ability to perceive visual cues or signals and communicate orally. - Environmental Factors:
Performance may require exposure to adverse conditions, such as dealing with irate individuals.
