Position: Part-Time Youth Services Librarian - Collingswood Public Library

Overview

Collingswood Public Library is hiring a Part‑Time Youth Services Librarian. The role focuses on working with children ages 5‑11 and fostering a sense of fun, exploration, and inclusion.

May 15, 2026. The position is open until filled.

Schedule

20–25 hours per week, primarily weekday afternoons. Required days:
Monday mornings, Wednesday afternoons and evenings (3 pm‑8 pm), Friday afternoons (3 pm‑5 pm), and at least one Saturday per month. An ideal applicant would be available for at least two weekday afternoons. Additional morning and evening hours are available.

Education

Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA‑accredited institution.

Compensation

$26–29 per hour.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Head of Youth Services, the candidate will:

  • Coordinate programming for children—organizing, publicizing, and staffing programs and activities focused on education and enrichment.
  • Shelve and repair books, collaborate with other youth services staff, provide service to patrons, create book displays, review donations, and make purchase recommendations.
  • Uphold the library’s mission, vision, and values, including a commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Clearly and consistently communicate and enforce the library’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist on the Reference Desk or Circulation Desk as needed.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children and an understanding of their unique needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current and emerging youth services practices and trends.
  • Proficiency in teaching new skills to a broad range of learners.
  • Record of maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Proven project management and problem‑resolution skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 15 lbs.; ability to sit and stand for periods of time.
  • Residency in the State of New Jersey (required by NJ statutes §52:14‑7).
  • Required to complete a background check.
