Basic Purpose
The Purchasing Manager leads Catelli Brothers’ purchasing function, with primary responsibility for the timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement of dry goods, packaging materials, trays, films, labels, corrugated materials, and other production and operational supplies required to support meat manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities- Lead and oversee purchasing activities, raw materials, packaging, and supplies.
- Develop procurement strategies that balance cost, quality, availability, inventory, and supply continuity.
- Manage supplier relationships, negotiations, contracts, pricing, and performance.
- Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends, availability, and supply-chain risks.
- Collaborate with Production, Operations, Sales, Quality, Finance, and senior leadership to meet business needs.
- Lead and develop the purchasing team while improving processes, controls, and purchasing efficiency.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative sources to strengthen supply continuity.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Procurement, Business, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive purchasing/procurement experience, preferably in meat processing, food manufacturing, or food distribution.
- Proven negotiation, supplier-management, inventory-management, and cost-analysis experience.
- Proficiency with Excel and ERP/purchasing systems.
- Demonstrated career stability, leadership experience, and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience purchasing dry goods, trays, packaging film, labels, corrugated materials, and other production and operational supplies within a meat or food manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials and specifications, including trays, films, and other materials used in fresh and processed meat production.
- Experience managing supplier relationships, pricing negotiations, contracts, lead times, inventory levels, and supply continuity for packaging and production materials.
- Experience working with domestic and international suppliers, brokers, importers, or exporters.
- Familiarity with USDA requirements, food-contact packaging requirements, GMPs, SQF standards, and applicable food-safety regulations.
- Experience in meat processing, protein manufacturing, or other high-volume food manufacturing environments are strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative suppliers/materials without compromising quality, food safety, or operational requirements.
