Roadway & Bridge Technician - (Engineering Technician III)
This position is responsible for the completion of Highway Inventory Data Collection activities which include the collection, processing and entry of highway and structure data into the Illinois Highway Information System (IHIS); reporting data information; obtaining information for the revisions of various maps;
Inventory of State Published Maps; and use of the Geographic Information System (GIS).
Essential Functions:
- Processes accurate and timely collection of highway and structure data into the Illinois Highway Information System.
- Provides accurate information to various agencies in a timely manner.
- Obtains accurate information and the timely processing of data for the revision of state, county, township, and municipal general highway maps.
- Completes accurate and timely special assignments.
- Conducts inventory of all state published maps for District 8.
- Verifies data output from the Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years of engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of GIS with the ability to assist others.
- Five of experience in plan preparation, plan review, or construction inspection.
- Experience in communicating with outside entities.
- Familiarity with local agency agreements/documents.
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid driver's license.
- Travel for field surveys ranging from 50 - 250 miles per day and may include overnight stays.
- Successful completion of a background screening.
