Job Description

As a SR. Advanced Systems Engineer here at Solstice Advanced Materials you will provide technical expertise to ensure the operation produces products that meet all quality, cost, and efficiency requirements for a 24/7 manufacturing facility. This role will identify ways to improve safety, quality, yields, and the capability of existing processes while also assisting in the scale up and implementation of developmental products/processes.

After you develop production troubleshooting skills and process knowledge, you will then contribute to the development of Solstice’s next generation of Spectra products by designing, testing and/or validating products from prototype to market. Core challenges include leading continuous process improvement to drive Key Performance Indicators for the operation to meet goals established by the business along with providing technical guidance to the operations team and assisting with process troubleshooting.

This role is responsible for maintaining the site’s PCN and supporting any process control needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain/Improve site’s PCN, Manage Strategy around PCN Critical Spares and Infrastructure
  • Experience with commissioning start-up control loop tuning
  • Experience with building control logic and control displays which are practical and purposeful
  • Experience with PLC systems logic programming, Allen Bradley RS Logic, Modicum, Wonderware)
  • Experience with Profibus, Experion C200/C300, PMIO Cards, SCADA, etc.
  • Experience with IT Networking, CISCO Switch Management, Patch Panels, Fiber Optics, VMWare
  • Champion site MOC process to manage changes
  • Mentor and Train site engineers on controls engineering and DCS
  • Develop Pre-Feed/FEL-1 packages for capital projects as process engineering expert
  • Provide off‑hours support for abnormal and non‑routine operations, including unit turnarounds
  • Understand process models, heat and material balances, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, layout, basic control schemes, and equipment specifications
  • Oversee production to ensure targets are met and track OEE and MTBF, identify/correct bad actors
  • Influence others (operators, peers, management) & drive toward solutions without direct authority
  • Support operations in troubleshooting daily process issues as needed
  • Support sustained operation of fiber, solvent recovery and utilities operations
  • Work closely with other site engineers to develop and implement innovative engineering solutions to improve OEE
  • Identify process KPIs and work independently or on a team to reduce process variability and waste through process unit operations optimization
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement process changes/control plans to drive continuous improvement
  • Lead productivity projects yielding significant reductions in defects/costs and increased productivity
  • Maintain engineering documents and participate in PHAs that execute recommendations to eliminate process safety hazards
  • Work on sustainability projects that optimize energy consumption and could help in reducing expenses to operate in a 24/7 manufacturing environment
  • Utilize Six Sigma/Statistical tools to drive process improvements
  • Manage monitoring, reporting and reduction of fugitive solvent emissions in accordance with site Title V agreements
  • Coordinate with 3rd party vendors to manage improvement opportunities for plant operations and drive opportunities to improve energy efficiency, productivity, and equipment operation/reliability.
  • Manage PHD Historian systems
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
  • 2+ Year experience in process/production in a chemical-based manufacturing setting
  • Experience with Honeywell’s Experion and Uniformness PHD
  • Ability to facilitate commissioning/maintenance PCN work with multiple contractors/resources
  • Ability to work without guidance or supervision
  • Must be willing to support site operations, in‑field, and after hours work as needed
