Utility Maintenance Specialist
Repairs and maintains wastewater pump stations, water towers, and other water/wastewater facilities.
Responsibilities- Inspect, maintain and repair sewer pumping stations, facilities, water storage tanks, valves, and related equipment.
- Maintain pumps, valves, blowers, filters, screens, emergency motors, generators, and other equipment.
- Adjust, repair and replace malfunctioning parts such as bearings, gauges, seats, and packing.
- Record and track pump amp and volt readings and water tank pressure.
- Ensure remote pump stations are functioning properly.
- Perform electrical and mechanical checks and resolve problems.
- Operate vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with utility line works as required.
- Perform related tasks as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent with at least 7‑years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possess or obtain a Virginia Waterworks Operations License (Class V or higher) within 18 months of employment, and must maintain it during the course of employment.
- Possess or obtain a Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (Class B or higher) within 18 months of employment, and must maintain it during the course of employment.
- Successfully complete a pre‑employment medical screening and criminal background check.
The work requires physical exertion such as walking over rough or difficult terrain; recurring standing, stooping, climbing or walking; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing between 25 and 75 pounds and may require the occasional lifting of objects weighing in excess of 74 pounds. The work may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as heightened strength, mobility, and dexterity.
The work environment involves extremely high risks with exposure to potentially life‑threatening situations or unusual environmental stress which requires a full range of safety and other precautions, but in some cases, these precautions cannot prevent injury, illness, or possibly death.
