About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a respected, mission-driven organization in Colorado Springs to hire an experienced Senior Accountant to join its finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who wants their work to have a direct connection to the local community. In addition to traditional accounting responsibilities, this position will support grant funding, budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and financial analysis for programs that provide meaningful services throughout the community.

- Manage a variety of general accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, account analysis, and financial reporting
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, budgets, and account activity
- Monitor program and departmental budgets, identify trends, and assist with forecasting
- Track grant revenues and expenditures to ensure funds are properly allocated and used in accordance with funding requirements
- Prepare budget modifications, expenditure reports, funding requests, and other grant-related financial documentation
- Reconcile funding, expenditures, and general ledger activity and research discrepancies
- Partner with program leaders and internal departments to provide financial guidance and ensure accurate reporting
- Assist with annual audits and prepare supporting schedules and documentation
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, organizational policies, grant requirements, and funding regulations
- Support procurement, accounts payable, payroll, and other financial functions as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, internal controls, and overall efficiency
- Maintain accurate and confidential financial records and documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- Several years of progressive accounting or financial analysis experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
- Experience with nonprofit, fund, grant, governmental, or public-sector accounting strongly preferred
- Experience managing or accounting for federal, state, or other restricted funding is highly valuable
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, reconciliation, and financial analysis skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with large amounts of financial data
- Experience with accounting/ERP systems and the ability to quickly learn new technology
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with both finance and non-finance professionals
We’d especially like to speak with candidates who have worked as a Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, Grant Accountant, Fund Accountant, Financial Analyst, Budget Analyst, or Senior Accounting Specialist within a nonprofit, government, education, healthcare, human services, or other community-focused organization.
Experience with
grant accounting, budgeting, compliance reporting, and government-funded programs would be particularly relevant.
