PositionSummary
The Preconstruction Manager develops preliminary budgets, secures negotiated projects, and leads preconstruction activities from concept through turnover to Operations. This role collaborates with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and internal teams to develop cost-effective mechanical solutions, create qualified budget estimates, and ensure successful project execution. The ideal candidate is experienced in design-build and design-assist delivery methods and excels at building lasting client relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Develop conceptual budgets, estimates, proposals, and scopes of work for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal systems.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-effective design solutions.
- Manage RFQs, RFPs, preconstruction projects, and budgets.
- Work with engineers, vendors, and subcontractors during design development and budgeting.
- Lead project presentations, negotiations, and customer meetings.
- Evaluate project risks and collaborate with leadership on mitigation strategies.
- Support procurement planning, constructability reviews, and MEP coordination.
- Facilitate seamless turnover to Estimating and Operations teams.
- Support project teams during construction as needed.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems.
- Understanding of building automation systems, commissioning, value engineering, and LEED principles.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contracts.
- Strong estimating, budgeting, negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating software.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of experience in estimating, cost control, design, preconstruction, or mechanical construction.
- Experience developing and budgeting complex mechanical systems.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- P.E. license preferred.
