Overview
Banning Lewis Academy is seeking a Dean of Students to support a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture by overseeing student discipline, attendance, and behavior systems while promoting restorative practices and student growth. The Dean works closely with administrators, counselors, teachers, students, and families to ensure high expectations for behavior, engagement, and accountability are consistently upheld. ACCEL Schools is the operator for Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate an understanding, respectful and receptive attitude toward the behavioral needs of students of various age groups 6-12.
- Provide expert knowledge of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function-based interventions, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) systems.
- Meet with students whose behavior warrants intervention and develop individualized behavior tracking and intervention programs.
- Serve on IEP Teams and develop relationships with students requiring intervention.
- Work with staff on crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that affect development and implementation of interventions.
- Serve as a consultant to administrators, teachers, and parents in finding positive solutions for behavior modification.
- Monitor student attendance while developing Absence Intervention Plans and aim for improved school-wide daily attendance.
- Promote school culture through daily practices, positive attitude, and collaboration with students, families and staff.
- Monitor student attendance, tardiness, and truancy; collaborate with families, counselors, and administrators to address attendance concerns.
- Develop and support interventions for chronically absent or disengaged students.
- Maintain timely and accurate records and files consistent with school policies and procedures.
- Participate in other supervision duties such as school events, trainings, morning duty, dismissal duty, and lunch duty, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree is required; fields of education, social work, health, or related field are preferred.
- Minimum of three years’ experience working with at-risk or behaviorally challenged students as a teacher, social worker, tutor or mentor, preferably in a multi-cultural setting.
- Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Colorado Principal License is preferred.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or equivalent training is preferred.
- Track record of building trust and positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to maintain composure and job performance under changing or stressful conditions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with professionalism and tact.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to pass federal, state, and local background checks.

Compensation and BenefitsThe annual starting salary for this position is $65,000.00. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
We offer benefits for full-time positions, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) retirement plan; life insurance; long- and short-term disability insurance; 10 paid holidays annually; and participation in Colorado’s Family & Medical Leave Insurance Program where eligible. Paid Time Off (PTO) accrual is based on role and term length, up to 10–15 days depending on the schedule.
