Salary Range: $66,000 - 68,000 per academic year. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Summary

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Special Education. This position resides within the Department of Teaching and Learning of the College of Education (COE) and will begin Fall 2026.

The typical time allocation for tenure-track and tenured faculty in the COE is 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service. The teaching load for this position is five classes per academic year (reduction to four classes for the first academic year), some of which may be online, hybrid or at off-campus locations, with the potential for additional teaching opportunities during the summer.

Additionally, the faculty member will develop and refine teaching and assessment practices; maintain an active research agenda; advise students; contribute to the COE's assessment and reauthorization initiatives; and participate in program, department, college, and community meetings.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching, research, and service/leadership per the COE Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure Guidelines. Primary teaching and advising responsibilities (40%), will be in graduate and undergraduate programs in Special Education and the undergraduate program in Inclusive Elementary Education. In research (40%), the faculty member will be expected to contribute to the research profile of the department through publications and the pursuit of grants and other sponsored program activities.

Service and leadership responsibilities (20%), will be to the profession and scholarly discipline, and will begin at the Program, Department, and College and over time expand to the University and System.
