The USOPC Athlete Development & Engagement team is looking for a self-motivated, intellectually curious, and highly adaptable individual to oversee the strategic implementation and daily operations of the USOPC Athlete Fellowship Program. This donor-funded, year-long program provides retired Team USA athletes meaningful work experiences through two six‑month rotations in select USOPC departments. The Specialist will manage program logistics, support Athlete Fellows, and maximize professional development opportunities, contributing to the Fellows' successful transition to long‑term employment within the Movement and beyond.
This position is supported by donor funding to sustain and expand the program through continued fundraising efforts.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of the USOPC Athlete Fellowship Program to ensure it aligns with the program’s goals and objectives. Collaborate with the People & Culture division to coordinate the selection process for Athlete Fellows, including reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and placing candidates in suitable USOPC departments. Develop recruitment and promotion strategies to maximize the number of qualified athlete applicants.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Athlete Fellows regarding the Fellowship Program, providing guidance, support, and resources throughout their fellowship. Create and facilitate the Athlete Fellow onboarding experience in collaboration with Associate Director, Athlete Learning & Development.
- Organize monthly professional development workshops, coordinating with staff to address individual career goals and challenges. Facilitate monthly Fellow check‑ins to support cohort cohesion and address any issues.
- Communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including USOPC departments, Athlete Fellows, donors, and community partners.
- Contribute to program logistics, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. Ensure all program activities comply with USOPC policies and procedures.
- Develop and document best practices and methodologies related to the athlete fellowship experience. Collaborate with the Associate Director to brainstorm solutions to improve processes that support consistency, transparency, and effective change management.
- In collaboration with the athlete development and engagement team, develop and prepare metrics to evaluate the success of the Athlete Fellowship program. Develop surveys, prepare and conduct interviews, and plan and facilitate group meetings with key stakeholders to gather and analyze relevant feedback.
- Manage data collection and analysis for reporting and insights into program impact, learning engagement, athlete experience, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Create and manage a project calendar to outline goals and objectives for the team and measure success in achieving them. Serve as the primary data collector for metrics and milestones in goal achievement.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- 3+ years of experience with program coordinator, athlete services, or a related field
- Self‑motivated and self‑directed
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, preferably with athletes
- Ability to manage complex structures of stakeholders and projects
- Passion for sport and the ideals of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
