Job SummaryProvide academic and technical support to faculty and students of the department. Support administrative assistants, Chair, and Associate Chair with on-demand office tasks and projects. Ensure maintenance of all department equipment, primarily desktop/laptop computers, printers, and in-house statistical and experimental software. The position presents an opportunity for every paraprofessional to leverage their unique skills and expertise and apply them in a professional academic setting.
Responsibilities- Mentor thesis students by advising on topic selection, research, and econometric analysis.
- Hold 1-on-1 appointments with thesis students on MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), R, and STATA to assist with preparation for senior thesis and informational technology aspects of coursework.
- Provide classroom and technical support by creating and editing courses in Canvas, providing software user support to faculty and students, i.e., updating STATA, mapping to printers, hardware maintenance, and maintaining steady paper supply, and promoting learning activities by way of video and photo creation, editing, and updating the department hallway bulletin boards. Aid faculty with Zoom calls and provide AV classroom support (HDMI, VGA, projection).
- Assist students with the major declaration process and course selection.
- Serve as content creator and editor for the department's social media (Facebook, Linked In, and Instagram as well as List-Serv announcements).
- Support field trip organization and occasionally travel with classes on field trips, as needed.
- Document requests made and solutions provided while working in the position, for periodic review with supervisor and for provision to future paraprofs.
- B.A. in Economics, Mathematical Economics, International Political Economy, or Business, Economics and Society
- Substantial computer and advanced technical experience, including knowledge of computer network environments and Windows environments
- Knowledge of a broad range of software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, web authoring and statistics packages
- Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds
- Enthusiasm for teaching computing applications to a wide range of users
