Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Classroom Teacher to work full‑time (10 months, Monday‑Friday, 7:45 AM‑3:30 PM) at The Vanguard School. The successful candidate will plan, implement, and assess instructional and behavioral lessons for students, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with specialists and families. Reports to Program Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
  • Current, valid Pennsylvania certification appropriate for assignment.
  • Experience in special education programing.
  • Ability to recognize the individuality and uniqueness of each student and treat them with respect and dignity.
  • Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the educational process.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and others.
  • Strong knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Proficiency with computers and clerical skills.
General Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, implement, and assess daily lessons, academic and behavioral, for students assigned to the classroom. Maintain accurate records, monitor student progress, and provide reporting.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan instructional lessons in writing according to a scope and sequence, addressing individual differences and goals.
  • Develop written goals for assigned students and monitor progress throughout the year.
  • Implement behavioral programs, define limits and expectations, encourage self‑discipline, and document incidents.
  • Supervise students at all times in accordance with health and safety policy during instructional and extracurricular activities.
  • Deliver instruction that is goal‑related, clear, equitable, properly paced, differentiated, and includes assessment.
  • Maintain a record for each student of instructional starting point, strengths, deficiencies, objectives, learning modes, materials, and progress evaluation.
  • Coordinate instruction with other instructional areas and specialists (psychologists, therapists, nurses, counselors).
  • Arrange use of teaching supplies, equipment, multimedia, and self‑prepared materials.
  • Conduct parent‑teacher conferences professionally as scheduled.
  • Assign and ensure proper care, use, and return of instructional materials.
  • Maintain classroom appearance and perform end‑of‑year inventory and storage.
  • Assist with budgeting, program goal planning, material ordering, and field‑trip planning with Program Supervisor and Director.

  • Maintain credentials and stay informed in PDE regulations, state/national standards through continued study, workshops, and conferences.
