Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Reports To: Lead Teaching Assistant
Exempt/Non-exempt
Pay Type: Hourly
Compensation- Pay range: $17-$20/hour
- Benefits:
For employees contracted for 30 hours per week or more, Thomas Mac Laren School pays for 100% of the employee’s base insurance premiums (Health, Dental, Vision, Long-term and Short-term disability, Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance, and Life insurance) for the base level coverages. No benefits are provided to employees contracted for less than 30 hours per week. - General
Purpose:
To assist classroom teachers in implementing the curriculum and providing student support.
- Assist faculty members in implementing the curriculum and completing logistical and administrative tasks
- Work in small groups or one-on-one with students who need academic, behavioral, or Social Emotional Learning (SEL) intervention.
- Assist the Exceptional Student Services (ESS) and Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) teams in implementing student plans (IEPs, 504s, MTSS and READ plans, etc.)
- Assist faculty in implementing academic and behavior plans
- Receive training in pedagogy, curriculum, and protocols in order to be maximally effective with students
- Fulfill regular monitoring duties (e.g., lunch, recess, traffic, etc.)
- Any other duties as assigned
Education: High School degree;
Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferred.

- Ability to learn and assist in implementing a variety of Lower School curricula (phonics, mathematics, P.E.)

- Communicates clearly, collegially, and regularly with co-workers and Head of School
- Willingness to take direction from classroom teachers, SPED Coordinator, and Head of School
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with both young people and adults
- Commitment to a diverse population of students and to closing the achievement gap
