- Pay range: $45,000–$66,000 per year
- Benefits:
For employees contracted for 30 hours or more per week, the school pays 100 % of the employee’s base insurance premiums (Health, Dental, Vision, Long‑term and Short‑term disability, Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance, and Life insurance). No benefits are provided to employees contracted for less than 30 hours per week.

- Instruction / Curriculum
- Attends mandatory Teacher Training Institute each summer.
- Delivers Thomas Mac Laren curriculum as assigned.
- Works with the Head of Lower School and teacher trainers to learn curriculum and methodology.
- Plans long‑term and short‑term instructional objectives.
- Incorporates interventions and accommodations as directed by the Head of Lower School.
- Follows guidelines for students with IEP or Section 504 plans.
- Demonstrates sound teaching and classroom management skills to facilitate learning.
- Maintains an appropriate and safe learning environment.
- Teacher / Student Relationships
- Enforces school policies.
- Maintains discipline and order in cooperation with the Head of Lower School.
- Provides constructive feedback to students in a timely manner.
- Encourages students to strive for high achievement.
- Encourages students to become agents of their own education.
- Assists with Student Orientation implementation.
- Acts as an effective monitor of students on duty (before, during, or after school, including lunch and recess).
- Teacher / Parent Relationships
- Provides frequent and effective feedback on learning goals to parents.
- Initiates communication with parents.
- Encourages parents to visit the class.
- Participates in biannual parent‑teacher evaluation conferences as assigned.
- Teacher / Staff Relationships
- Communicates regularly with the Head of Lower School, Lead Teachers and co‑workers on assignment matters.
- Cooperates with other staff in sharing responsibilities and implementing group decisions.
- Works effectively on any faculty committee to which one is assigned.
- Participates fully in the community of learners (e.g., prepares for and attends all Faculty Seminars).
- Additional Duties – Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred: Kodály music certification from an OAKE‑endorsed program.
Experience: Demonstrated ability to serve well as a Thomas Mac Laren teacher.

- Love of educating children and learning.

- Deep knowledge of folk music traditions.
- Ability to teach music aligned with Mac Laren’s K‑12 program.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of writings and thought beyond one's area of expertise.

- Collaboration in a diverse environment.
- Willingness to take direction from lead teachers and the Head of Lower School.
- Commitment to a diverse student population and to closing the achievement gap.
Occasional heavy lifting, frequent walking, and the ability to work in variable temperatures and noise levels. The position may involve operating computer and office equipment and handling routine office tasks.
