Job Description

Summary:

The Games and Movement Teacher leads a dynamic and developmentally appropriate Waldorf-inspired physical education program for students in grades 1–8. Through games, rhythm, movement, coordination, and teamwork activities, the teacher supports physical development, social-emotional growth, and a lifelong love of physical activity. The Games and Movement program is rooted in the principles of imaginative play, cooperative learning, and age-appropriate physical skill-building.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Duties:

  • Design and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons in movement, games, and physical education for students in grades 1–8.
  • Incorporate imaginative, rhythmic, and cooperative games that support healthy physical and social development.
  • Provide structured opportunities for students to develop coordination, balance, agility, strength, spatial awareness, and teamwork skills.
  • Differentiate instruction based on student needs, physical abilities, and developmental stages.
  • Introduce seasonal movement and outdoor games that align with Waldorf pedagogy and support student well-being.

Curriculum Development & Integration:

  • Develop a comprehensive movement curriculum that aligns with Waldorf principles and Colorado Academic Standards.
  • Collaborate with class teachers to integrate games and movement themes with academic and seasonal classroom rhythms.
  • Support festivals, assemblies, and school events with coordinated movement-based activities and performances.
Classroom & Environment Management:
  • Create a respectful and inclusive environment conducive to learning, play, and self-regulation.
  • Supervise students respectfully and ensure safe participation in all activities, indoors and outdoors.
  • Ensure proper care and storage of equipment and materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe teaching environment in accordance with school protocols.
Professionalism & School Participation:
  • Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, communication, behavior, and punctuality.
  • Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings, area team meetings, professional development sessions, and school festivals.
  • Communicate and coordinate with class teachers regarding student behavior, learning needs, and class collaboration.
  • Represent the school positively and professionally in all interactions with students, families, colleagues, and the broader community.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and success of the school.
  • Organize and oversee the annual School Pentathlon, including coordinating logistics, collaborating with teachers, managing volunteers, and ensuring a smooth and successful event. Responsibilities include event planning, communication with families, and creating a positive, inclusive experience for all participants.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the school’s operations.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching games, movement, physical education, or rhythmic activities in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of Waldorf methodology and its application to movement and child development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Waldorf training or experience in Waldorf games and movement curriculum.
  • Familiarity with developmental movement, spatial dynamics, cooperative games, and outdoor education.
  • 1–3 years classroom or physical education experience.
  • Colorado State Licensure or willingness to pursue licensure.
Additional Information

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Occasionally required to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Close vision required for detail-oriented tasks.
  • Work occurs in both office and outdoor settings, with frequent noise and potential exposure to bacterial or viral contaminants due to interactions with youth.
