Position Summary

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will not sponsor work visas or permanent resident applications for this position. This part‑time (less than 50% time) teaching appointment is for the Gateway Program Seminar (GPS), an interdisciplinary program designed to help first‑year students adjust to university life and to serve as the foundation for the Compass Curriculum.

Appointment Details

Appointments are term‑by‑term, ranging from one week to a full semester. The faculty assistant role includes teaching discipline‑specific, theme‑related, and hobbies‑based courses in online, hybrid, or in‑person formats. Most classes use a co‑teaching model with an assigned student peer leader.

Responsibilities
  • Teach first‑year courses aligned with GPS curriculum and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with co‑teachers and student peer leaders to design and deliver course content.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback.
  • Participate in ongoing program evaluation and continuous improvement activities.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited university.
  • At least one year of teaching experience.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching first‑year students and understanding of the college experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A terminal degree from an accredited university.
  • At least two years of teaching in a higher education setting.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $3,900 per 3‑credit course, with the final amount based on internal equity, experience, and other factors.

Location and Schedule

Work may be conducted remotely, on‑site, or in a hybrid arrangement. The position is exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Physical Requirements
  • Daily seated work and occasional moving of up to 10 pounds.
  • Use of a computer screen for long periods and normal hearing.
Additional Information

Applicants must already be in the United States with valid work authorization or an employment‑based visa; the university will not sponsor new visas. Candidates should either reside in Colorado or be prepared to relocate within two months of employment. Background investigations, including criminal, motor vehicle, and misconduct history checks, will be conducted for all finalists.
