PEAK Parent Center is seeking a dedicated Parent Advisor to join our team. At PEAK Parent Center, we support parents of children with disabilities to navigate educational systems confidently. The Parent Advisor provides families with personalized guidance, resources, and strategies via phone, email, and in person. The role includes conducting training throughout Colorado and helping develop and deliver educational content through webinars, podcasts, short-form videos, self-paced learning, and other accessible digital formats.

This position aims to strengthen parents' advocacy skills and ensure they have the tools they need for their child's educational success.

Essential

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide individualized support to families of children with disabilities through phone, email, virtual, and in-person communication.
• Help families understand up-to-date special education processes, IDEA, Section 504, IEPs and IFSPs, and their rights and responsibilities by sharing accurate, unbiased information and resources.
• Support families in making informed decisions by building their knowledge and confidence to advocate effectively for their children.
• Maintain accurate records of interactions in our Salesforce system, ensuring detailed and timely documentation of all advising sessions.
• Brainstorm proactive problem-solving strategies with families.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all family information.
• Ensure all written materials disseminated are accurate and of high quality.
• Engage families and the public about PEAK in a manner that positively reflects the organization's mission, services, and achievements.
• Ensure that resource materials are electronically filed according to naming convention and easily located by staff.

Training & Educational Content

• Conduct training throughout Colorado and help develop and deliver educational content through webinars, podcasts, short-form video, self-paced learning modules, and other accessible digital formats.

Community Engagement and Partnerships

• Participate in community outreach activities, including resource fairs and other community events, to market PEAK's resources and training and build connections with families, schools, and community partners.
• Represent PEAK on relevant councils, committees, and advisory groups contributing the family perspective and sharing information that supports families of children with disabilities.

Continued Learning:

• Continue in ongoing professional development opportunities provided by PEAK Parent Center, including training sessions, webinars, and conferences, to stay updated on changing special education laws, best practices, and community resources.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• English/Spanish Bilingual:
  Must be bilingual in English and Spanish and be able to provide family support, communication by phone and email, and deliver information and training in both languages.
• Willingness to learn:
  This position will participate in newer ways of sharing information with families, including podcasts, short-form videos, recorded training, and other digital content. Prior experience with these formats is not required. Candidates should be comfortable learning new tools and skills, and training and support will be provided.
• Flexibility:
  Availability for evening and weekend events.
• Travel Within Colorado:
  Attend workshops, conferences, and community events across Colorado to deliver training, provide in-person support, and engage with local communities.

  A parent/caregiver of a child with a disability or a self-advocate with a disability who has navigated the special education system.

Education and Formal Training

• Equivalent combination of related education and experience required.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

• Proficient in English language skills required
• Knowledge of IDEA and related disability laws, familiarity with disability culture, and experience working with families of children with disabilities preferred
• Strong interpersonal relationship skills to interact with families and community leaders
• Experience in providing support to families in a culturally competent manner.
• Working knowledge to provide support in a culturally sensitive manner, understanding diverse perspectives and social justice issues.
• Knowledge of special education and general education systems and laws
• Understanding of current best practices in education, community support and services
• Proficiency with databases, Word, PowerPoint, & Excel
• Strong customer service skills and principles
• Detail orientation
• Team player

Other Job Requirements

• Valid Colorado Driver's license, valid auto insurance, and reliable transportation
• Must follow proper safety procedures when performing physical job tasks.
• Participate in staff development activities as assigned.
