Range

Salary Range : $ 25,000 - $27,500 per academic year. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Summary

This 9-month .5 FTE position is set to begin January 2027. The assistant teaching professor is expected to teach approximately 12credit hours of undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in nutrition and sports nutrition each academic year (lectures and labs); mentor undergraduate and graduate students in and outside ofthe classroom, engage with partner organizations; participate inboth internal and external professional service activities; and demonstrate collaborative interests and collegiality in all aspectsof university and community engagement.

Candidates with expertise in the areas of nutrition, exercise science and other affiliated fields are encouraged to apply. Applicants should possess good interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in English.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but arenot limited to:

Teaching & Instruction (80%)
  • Develop and deliver high-quality undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the assigned discipline, using evidence-based teaching practices to promote student learning and engagement.
  • Design course syllabi, assignments, and assessments aligned with program learning outcomes and accreditation standards.
  • Facilitate classroom, laboratory, and/or online instruction using appropriate pedagogical strategies and technology tools.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work tosupport academic success.
  • Maintain regular office hours and academic advising for students to guide course selection, career planning, and academic progress.
  • Integrate experiential learning opportunities (e.g.,internships, projects, simulations) where appropriate to enhance applied knowledge.
  • Mentor graduate students in capstone projects in nutrition and/or sports nutrition.
  • Continuously update course content to reflect current research, industry trends, and best practices in thefield.

Service (20%)
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees to support governance, curriculum development, and strategic initiatives.
  • Engage in student recruitment and retention activities,including tours, outreach events and program promotion.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on program assessment and accreditation processes to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to community and professional service through partnerships, guest lectures, or involvement in relevant organizations.
  • Mentor adjunct faculty or graduate teaching assistants to maintain instructional quality and consistency.
