Position Overview

Power Technical (PTEC), part of James Irwin Charter Schools, is seeking an organized, dependable, and student-focused Temporary Attendance Secretary / Dean’s Assistant to provide coverage during an employee’s maternity leave. The selected candidate will begin November 9, 2026, allowing approximately two weeks of paid, hands‑on training with the current attendance staff before Thanksgiving Break. Following the break, the candidate will assume the responsibilities of the position beginning November 30, 2026, with the temporary assignment expected to continue through approximately the end of January 2027.

This position may have the opportunity to transition into a long‑term position depending on staffing needs following the maternity‑leave period. Candidates interested in both the temporary assignment and potential continued employment are encouraged to apply.

This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate attendance records, communicating with parents and students, supporting the Dean of Students, enforcing school expectations, and helping maintain PTEC's safe, structured, and character‑focused environment.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working with middle and high school students, able to communicate professionally with parents and staff, and capable of handling confidential student information with discretion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Attendance & Student Records
  • Accurately record and maintain daily student attendance, absences, tardies, and truancy information.
  • Sign late students into school and provide appropriate passes.
  • Follow up with parents/guardians regarding unreported student absences.
  • Determine the location/status of students marked absent when necessary.
  • Track attendance patterns and prepare required absentee/truancy notifications.
  • Prepare attendance, tardy, detention, and related reports.
  • Enter and maintain attendance, tardy, and truancy information in Infinite Campus.
  • Maintain accurate spreadsheets and other student records as assigned.
  • Communicate with parents regarding attendance concerns.
  • Maintain student locker assignments and related records.
Dean of Students Support
  • Provide direct administrative support to the Dean of Students.
  • Assist with student behavior referrals, documentation, filing, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain and update disciplinary information and the Dean’s Log in Infinite Campus as assigned.
  • Assist with daily dress‑code checks and help clarify dress‑code expectations.
  • Support and consistently enforce school rules and expectations.
  • Monitor students in hallways and verify student passes.
  • Communicate professionally with parents regarding attendance and disciplinary matters as directed by the Dean.
  • Assist students who may need academic, behavioral, social, or emotional support and refer concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Monitor hallways, lunches, lunch detention, and other student areas as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student disciplinary, attendance, academic, and personal information.
  • Report student safety concerns to appropriate school personnel and fulfill mandatory‑reporting responsibilities when applicable.
School & Administrative Support
  • Answer telephones and provide front‑office assistance as needed.
  • Assist students, parents, staff, substitute teachers, and visitors.
  • Assist with student activities, school events, and special programs.
