Overview
Kratos is seeking a Chief Project Engineer for SATCOM and Space Ground System projects of varying size and complexity. The Chief Project Engineer provides technical leadership throughout the engineering lifecycle, coordinating multiple engineering teams and subcontractors, and interfacing with internal organizations and customers on technical matters.
Base pay range$/yr - $/yr
Responsibilities- Lead, conduct, and coordinate requirement analysis, decomposition, and management across multiple engineering development efforts, including customer and subcontractor interaction and trade-off options
- Lead and coordinate Architecture / System / Hardware / Firmware / Software design development and maturation across multiple deliverables and teams
- Support and coordinate verification, troubleshooting, and project acceptance testing
- Articulate technical concepts orally and in writing to customers, users, subcontractors, and the development team; lead project formal reviews (requirements, design, test readiness)
- Support the Project Manager with project schedule and financial performance updates
- Assist in defining, scoping, tracking, and refining the Integrated Master schedule to ensure on-time and on-budget completion
- Maintain technical project responsibility for assigned tasks; manage subcontractors and report progress to management
- Support project risk and opportunity management
- Support business development activities for Kratos satellite communications products
- Represent the Company as technical advisor in high-level meetings with Company and customer personnel
- Prepare, deliver, and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies
- Mentor less experienced engineers
- This position requires at minimum a Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / SCI
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related degree and at least 15 years relevant work experience (willing to consider a range of work and educational levels)
- Experience leading system development including software development in at least one modern programming language (e.g., C++, Java, Python)
- Experience coordinating requirements with customers and subcontractors and developing test methodologies to verify them
- Self-motivated with ability to lead technical teams across multiple disciplines, including subcontractors
- Experience leading and coordinating IPTs for Space-to-Ground or Satellite communication large System-of-Systems projects
- Experience preparing for and leading PDRs, CDRs, SRRs, TRRs and other design reviews
- Ability to work with ambiguity and clarify requirements to meet customer needs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with customers, subcontractors and management
- Travel as required to support a project (~10% travel)
- Strong data analytics for signals and RF data; MATLAB proficiency
- Familiarity with SATCOM links, ground system architectures, and testing methods
- Experience with MBSE / SysML using common tools
- Experience with S2G projects and TT&C / C2 knowledge
- Experience with Optical Ground Station equipment, installation, testing, V&V
- Basic knowledge of signal processing, digital communications theory, and network communications
- Experience applying Agile methodologies to project development
- Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS, JAMA, etc.)
- Familiarity with cloud-based and Kubernetes-enabled applications
- Familiarity with Configuration Management Tools (e.g., Git, Atlassian tools, Artifactory, CMPro, etc.)
The grade-based pay range is listed above. Salaries are determined by factors including education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
Competitive salary based on experience and education. Salary Range: $175,000-$220,000
