Instrument & Control Technician II (Senior Technician)
Executing operations, assessments, monitoring and organizational tasks of a distributed control system (DCS) and all associated field devices, including the Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) for a basic cycle gas power plant.
The Responsibilities- Enforce procedures and activities as directed by the O&M Manager, encompassing:
- Recognize and execute On-condition tasks.
- Assess proposed modifications based on cost-benefit analysis.
- Specify instrument and electrical adjustments as needed.
- Complete the O&M Tech I qualification process as required. Qualification must be achieved within 2 years of hiring date.
- Adhere to company and operator policies, procedures, and work practices for safe and efficient operations.
- Calculate and assess test results.
- Utilize installed and portable test tools and technical guides to troubleshoot equipment and systems.
- Oversee, sustain and evaluate all system startup processes to determine support requirements for control and electrical personnel.
- Coordinate job tasks concerning planning, methods, standards, and reporting for assigned work.
- Conduct both regular and unplanned preventive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment.
- Aid other plant staff as necessary.
- Maintenance and upkeep of site structures and premises.
- Keep, calibrate and repair plant instrumentation and control devices.
- Compile, maintain and furnish various reports/documents as needed or upon request.
- Review P&I Drawings and logic diagrams.
- Relay plant system conditions, equipment status, and relevant details to others.
- Coordinate job tasks concerning planning, methods, standards, and reporting for assigned work.
- Develop procedures related to instrumentation and electrical systems.
- Direct and execute work following company and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Operate all plant mobile equipment, including forklifts and man lifts.
- Maintain records of equipment calibration, tests, and certifications.
- Possibly provide support beyond scheduled work hours as required.
- Some travel may be necessary.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
- A two-year technical degree and minimum 5 years of experience in power plant or industrial electrical, instrumentation, or electronics is necessary.
- Significant experience in power plant or industrial electrical/electronic work can substitute for a degree.
- Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), GE Mark VI, ABB Bailey INFI 90, Various PLC Controllers, Teledyne Monitor Labs CEMS controls, and equipment. Preferred skills in programming and configuration.
- Understanding of equipment limitations, parameters, procedures, and systems; take corrective actions as needed.
- Working knowledge of combined cycle power plants, power plant operations, maintenance, electrical principles, and related materials.
- Ability to interpret control drawings and P&'s.
- Capable of making maintenance decisions with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of instrumentation test equipment, signal generators, relay test sets, oscilloscopes, and computers.
- Understanding of CEM System hardware, software, and reporting.
- Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to learn.
- Strong mechanical skills with knowledge of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics.
- Capability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Good judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Strong organization, accuracy, and timeliness in work.
- Effective problem-solving skills with analytical mindset.
- Basic computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, and other software.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and external parties.
- Valid U.S. Driver license with acceptable MVR history, if applicable.
