Overview

The Arrival is seeking talented Assistant Stage Managers to assist the Stage Manager on this arena tour in 3 major areas: during load ins, the live performance, and load outs. They will primarily help track blocking and develop track sheets during rehearsal, help build decking, direct hands, spike the stage during load in, and manage the backstage/run a track during shows.

This is a new show on its inaugural tour and much of the tracking and blocking will be built throughout the rehearsal period. A successful applicant will be a quick thinker, problem solver, positive, creative, energetic, and reliable. Please include examples of paperwork, as this will be a large part of the rehearsal process. Touring experience preferred.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader , capable of handling high stress situations and adapting under pressure while staying positive. We have a diverse team of many different disciplines; learning how to lead and interact with all the performers is core to the job. Experience with large casts is appreciated. The candidate will be interacting with and leading new groups of local union stagehands at each venue.

During the REHEARSAL PERIOD the Assistant Stage Manager will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the SM in pre-production duties, notably creating blocking sheets, deck tracks, and prop run sheets to have readily available.
  • Learning their backstage track and understanding the backstage flow of props, set pieces and stagehands.

During the PERFORMANCE PERIOD of the tour, they will be responsible for managing groups of stagehands on load in, ensuring a smooth run during the shows and assisting the SM in loading in and out of venues.

  • Load in, including but not limited to:
Assisting in the setting of soft goods, setting up turntable decking, moving road cases, props, and set pieces to their correct locations, assist in leading teams of union hands, spiking the stage, and prepping the stage for show.
  • During show, run the backstage and their track smoothly, maintaining a safe environment for performers and stagehands alike, and responding to emergencies. The ASM’s may assist with lighting and extinguishing flame effects. They will preset designated props and set pieces before and during the show. The ASM’s are the primary communication conduit between the stage and the SM and production team in the FOH booth
  • Assist during load out, including but not limited to:
Leading teams of union hands to break down the decking, take down soft goods, pack up road cases, direct cases and set pieces to the truck, and assist the SM as needed.

The ASM’s will assist in running any rehearsals as needed, if designated by the SM or Director.
