Financial Manager
The Gazette is seeking an exceptional Vice President of Finance to join our executive leadership team. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a strategic finance leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to influence the future of a respected organization. As a financial leader, you will be responsible for the integrity, strategy, and performance of all financial operations while serving as a trusted advisor to the President and COO while being a critical business partner to department heads across the company.
The role is performed on-site in our downtown Colorado Springs office. Compensation ranges from $150,000 to $180,000 with potential for annual bonus.
As VP of Finance, you will oversee all aspects of the company’s financial engine, including:
Strategic Leadership & Planning, Financial Operations & Management, Business Partnership, and Corporate & Community Impact.
This position is responsible for revenue, expense, and capital planning, reporting and financial analysis by developing and managing the organization’s budget process, rolling forecasts and long-range plans as well as overseeing related analyses and relevant reporting needs. This position also oversees day-to-day operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable (payments, collections, etc.) and contract review and management. This is a hands-on leadership position that works closely with senior management and the company’s corporate parents.
Additionally, this position serves on the Gazette Charities’ board and provides financial oversight and reporting for the charity.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises the finance and accounting department’s personnel (GL, AP, AR, Business Operations, Collections).
- Prepares, implements and manages company-wide budgets.
- Manages and implements monthly financial reports and operational reviews, strategic planning and annual operating plans.
- Provide accounting oversight to ensure accurate and timely financial closes adhering to GAAP and other financial standards for all publications.
- Proactively and productively identifies threats and opportunities and develops business plans to address challenges.
- Leads the development, and implementation, of key changes in finance policies, best practices, methods, applications, tools and other standardization initiatives.
- Collaborates with and provides insight to President and COO.
- Develops and demonstrates a deep understanding of the business operations through a mixture of regular, routine interaction and systematic information gathering and analysis.
- Challenges forecasts and budget to assure quality, accuracy and logic.
- Analyzes key metrics, understands and interprets information to identify new business strategies and develops business cases supporting new strategies.
- Work closely with sales management to provide the data and analysis necessary to understand and grow revenue.
- Helps non-finance leaders interpret financial metrics to drive accountability.
- Prepares financial reports and analysis for the President and Publisher, the parent company, department directors and government agencies and ensures accuracy of all reporting.
- Serves as the financial liaison with our corporate parents to ensure corporate requirements and requests are timely met.
- Partners with divisional operations and actively promotes interdepartmental teamwork and participates or leads special project teams.
- Serves on the Gazette Charities board ensuring financial and reporting compliance.
- Communicates professionally and proactively.

Minimum Education & Work Experience Requirements:
- Undergraduate Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required or equivalent experience.
- MBA and/or CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of experience as a finance professional with a minimum of three years as a Controller, VP, or CFO or equivalent experience.
