This work unit provides comprehensive services and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The focus is on providing services and supporting an active learning approach, creating a safe and healthy environment, and delivering 24-hour treatment services in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
The Wheat Ridge Regional Center is looking to hire motivated, hard-working individuals to provide direct support services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Some individuals have high medical needs; others require support around behavioral and mental health needs. There are opportunities for promotion and career growth.

Position SummaryThe Behavior Technician position is a paraprofessional role that assists in the delivery of behavior analytic services for residents served at the Regional Centers. The Behavior Technician implements programs directly with residents, trains data collection systems and behavioral interventions to Direct Support Professionals at Wheat Ridge Regional Center, and promotes active treatment through skill acquisition programs. The technician recommends changes to benefit the resident and responds to medical and behavioral emergencies.
PrimaryJob Duties
- Data Collection
- Engages in data collection through an Electronic Health Record or physical data collection as guided by the supervising BCBA.
- Collects data on interfering or maladaptive behaviors to aid in functional behavior assessments (FBA) and skill acquisition targets (e.g., daily living skills, tolerance, coping strategies).
- Identifies deficits within the residential environment to improve data collection accuracy.
- Determines if the data collection system adequately reflects the Individual using Interobserver Agreement interventions.
- Recommends action plans to support services within program standards.
- Program Implementation and Crisis Management
- Implements preference assessments and skill acquisition programs to promote learning opportunities using behavior analytic concepts.
- Facilitates delivery of highly preferred items that may function as reinforcement.
- Implements behavior reduction programs with antecedent and consequent strategies per the supervising BCBA.
- Documents outcome of treatments and program implementation timely and accurately.
- Physically lift/transport/position residents using approved lifting techniques.
- Employs Safety Care crisis management training to keep individuals and staff safe.
- Intervenes during interfering behavior per the Behavior Intervention Plan.
- Determines reinforcement delivery considering restrictions and needs of others.
- Uses behavior analytic techniques (e.g., pairing, momentum, antecedent interventions) to increase compliance when implementing skill acquisition programs.
- Addresses staff challenges with treatment fidelity using behavior analytic techniques such as behavioral skills training.
- Training
- Provides onsite training and monitoring of direct care staff to ensure accurate implementation of program plans per each resident’s behavior plan.
- Identifies training needs and initiates requests for training as needed.
- Reports to supervisor any problems in staff compliance with clinical behavioral programs.
- Provides active treatment to residents to promote independence in relation to behavior programs.
- Assists with daily living needs related to behavioral needs/programming (eating, hygiene, dressing, bathing, toileting, clothing care).
- Reports training deficits to the supervising BCBA as needed.
- Uses clinical skills to tactfully provide feedback to direct support staff and ensure adherence to plans.
Other duties as assigned.
This position includes not just the required RBT supervision but can also include BCBA supervision for RBTs working toward becoming certified as BCBAs.
Minimum Qualifications- A high school diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned
- Current and valid Registered Behavioural Technician (RBT) certification
- College coursework relevant to the assignment may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience
- There is no substitution for the required license
