Salary/Pay Range$55,315 - $60,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

As part of the Division of Emergency and Safety Services (DESS) at UCCS, the Operational Safety Coordinator supports operational, occupational, and environmental health and safety programs across campus. This role applies in‑depth knowledge of safety principles, risk management, and environmental compliance to assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs that promote injury prevention, safe work practices, and operational risk reduction.
The position exercises discretion, analytical skill, and personal accountability while contributing to operational safety initiatives across academic, administrative, facilities, and operational environments. The Professional works under the guidance of Department Leadership, providing support and technical expertise on safety programs and ensuring adherence to recognized safety standards. The role also fosters a culture of safety by partnering with faculty, staff, and students to integrate safety and compliance into workplace practices and behavior.
Operational safety programs may include, but are not limited to, lockout/tagout, ladder safety, machine guarding, powered industrial equipment, fall protection, confined spaces, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and other workplace safety programs. While UCCS is not regulated by OSHA, the University adopts OSHA standards and other recognized frameworks as best practices. The role assists in interpreting and applying these standards to campus‑appropriate policy, guidance, training, and oversight.
The Professional also supports safety and preparedness training across the Division and campus partners, providing consultation, guidance, and training under Department Leadership.
