Job Summary

The Specialist I, Safety – Laundry will assist and implement the organizational safety program, ensuring a safe and healthy workplace for the Fresh Start Laundry facility. The Safety Specialist will be responsible for implementation, continual improvement and day‑to‑day support of the Goodwill of Colorado Health and Safety Program. The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Safety Manager and will provide safety support/education and will communicate imminent concerns to the Laundry Manager/Supervisor and Safety Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Work closely with the Learning and Development department and Laundry Leadership to create safety training and implement safety training processes and timelines.
  • Assist in conveying details of Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) and Emergency Action Plans (EAP), and ensuring the plans are adhered to.
  • Ensure that procedures related to energized equipment are effectively instituted, communicated to employees, and are maintained by management and the Laundry Safety Specialist.
  • Ensure that procedures related to electrical safety are effectively instituted, communicated to employees, and are maintained by management and the Laundry Safety Specialist.
  • Maintain the organization’s Monthly Safety Training program and ensure safety‑related processes and procedures are adhered to (e.g., Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) training, Laundry Machines, Lock‑out Tag‑out, Trash Compactor, Injury and Incident reporting, etc.).
  • Comprehend, convey, and maintain organizational fire prevention processes, internal Hazcom methodologies and processes, and assess Safety Data Sheets (SDS) binders to confirm they are up to date.
  • Assist the Safety Manager with coordinating CPR/First aid training, Risk Bootcamps, Safety Representative meetings, and other meetings determined by the Risk Director and Safety Manager.
  • Perform investigations as needed or directed following injuries, incidents, or allegations of unsafe conditions to identify root causes, contributing factors, establish corrective actions, or confirm the absence of unsafe conditions.
  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis to identify risk of injury/accident exposure and counter with preventative measures.
  • Perform bi‑annual audits at the assigned location to confirm regulatory compliance, identify opportunities for improvement, and support the assigned location with corrective actions and recommendations to remedy deficiencies. Collaborate with Safety Manager and Site Managers to provide safety materials that aid in injury and incident prevention and call attention to workplace hazards (i.e., signage, equipment, and devices). Effectively file and retain records for the assigned location.
  • Assist the Safety Manager with facilitating monthly Safety Representative meetings and safety‑related meetings. Reinforce organizational safety training which is distributed monthly; and include Active Shooter Training.
  • Lead monthly drills and track participation of emergency evacuation procedures.
Standards for Measuring Performance
  • Completeness, accuracy, and punctuality of reports and other assignments.
  • The ability to assist the Organization in meeting or exceeding accreditation standards approved or endorsed by Goodwill Industries International (GII) and CARF.
  • Responsibility shown in ensuring all risk management, safety, workers’ compensation, loss prevention, and financial information is kept confidential.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and respond to special requests.
  • Reflect a high standard of integrity.
